Mapua University freshman Gericho Piolo Marino won third place in the 25^th NCR-Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) held last November 12, 2019 in Technological University of the Philippines (TUP). He was accompanied and mentored by Prof. Renilda S. Layno, a faculty member of the Mathematics Department.

A second year civil engineering student emerged as the champion in the annual statistics quiz bee held last October 4, 2019 at AVR2 Mapua Intramuros campus. Mr. Earl John Salamat received P10,000 cash price with medal and certificate. The elimination round was participated by more than 200 freshmen and second year students from both Intramuros and Makati campuses. The top 20 students from the elimination round vied for the top 5 positions who received cash prices and medals in the final round.

The Mathematics Department of the Mapua University recently conducted its 3^rd Research Colloquium on April 3, 2019 at Seminar Room. Four undergraduate theses from the Management Science and Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Edgar M. Adina and four graduate theses under the supervision of Dr. Dante L. Silva were presented. The event aims to spur research collaboration among faculty and students in Mathematics, Statistics and related field.

Mapúa University held its 13th Math Wizard Competition last January 21 to 23, 2019 in its Intramuros campus.

The competition was headed by Mapúa’s Department of Mathematics with a total of 92 student participants from various schools and departments of the University.

28 September 2018.  The Statistics Quiz Bee for Freshmen is an annual search for freshmen students who show skills and mastery in Statistics.  This Quiz Bee covers topics in Combinatorics, Probability, Descriptive and Inferential Statistics.  The Mathematics Department headed by Dr. Mylen Aala-Capuno renews this annual competition to highlight the students’ skills in this subject which is needed for the licensure examination, research and problem solving in the real world through data analytics.  Previous winners of this annual quiz bee include board topnotchers like Engr.
